And rock solid, at 300 and 400 yards your crosshairs are remarkably still. It has to be the most stable way to shoot in the field. And during your hunt if you don't end up using it you won't even notice that you carried it.
I picked this version over the stoney point shooting sticks II because a professional review that otherwise loved them was critical of their feet. This product has nice carbide tips that prevent them from slipping if you happen to get a leg on rocky terrain. The stoney point sticks have feet that slip.
For the price there is no reason to not get them, great product that will improve your accuracy in the field in a huge way.

Brunton Three-section Monopod for Binoculars and Transits Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Brunton monopod for use as a walking stick for hiking, and a little added stability for my ultra zoom digital camera. It's very light at 9.5 ounces (approx a half a pound), but still works as a very sturdy walking stick. It collapses to a portable 25.5 inches, and extends to 62.5 inches. Most of the other double duty (monopod and walking stick) poles were about the same length collapsed, but a good 10 inches shorter than the Brunton fully extended which could be a problem for a tall photographer. It has a nice foam rubber handle, and a rubber tip to provide ample traction. No carbide tip, but that wasn't a huge concern for me. With the lower portion partially or fully collapsed and the upper portion fully extended there's little to no flex when applying significant weight (leaning 200+ lbs onto the pole). With the lower leg fully extended the pole flexes some when applying significant weight, but not enough to be a problem in my experience. The weight of a camera would never make this flex, so no worries in that department. Overall I'm very satisfied, and the price on Amazon can't be beat.

(More customer reviews)This is a great hiking stick. The top hard wood knob has a built in compass, and is good to bash critters/persons that come at you in an aggressive manner. It also has a good wrist band made out of elastic that comes in quite handy. There is also a nice carrying strap. The stick can be extended or collapsed just buy twisting it a few times.
The hiking stick is collapsable and consists of three sections total. An added bonus is that there are "tick marks" measured off in increments along the extended portion of the hiking stick so you can measure the depth of any water obstacles that you come along. However, the measurements are in "metric". Kind of baffling. I just used a conversion scale and scratched the "english" measurement underneath the metric.
The handle screws off to offer a small compartment where you can store some matches or an emergency fishing kit or some sort of small items that may come in handy. The hiking stick comes with a hard plastic "V" that screws on in place of the hard wood handle. This is used for hunters for a rifle rest. Also, once the hard wood handle is screwed off, you can screw a camera in its place and the stick makes a good stand for photogrophy purposes.
About the only thing I can say "bad" about this hiking stick is that the rubber tip for the point of the stick has a tendency to un-screw itself when hiking. After a while it does get kind of aggravating, so one day I just tightened the tip a little too much and stripped out the threads in the collapsable sections and ruined my stick. I bought a second stick and used thread tape to help keep the rubber tip on. Now I have NO problems. I would suggest you do the same if you buy this hiking stick. Another "bad" comment is that this stick is kind of "pricey". However, as another reviewer commented, this hiking stick is worth every penny.
I have also used this stick to help hold up a poncho during a rain storm and also as a splint to keep a fellow hikers leg straight when she injured her leg/ankle. The alternate uses for this hiking stick is only limited to your imagination.

Stansport Outdoorsman Trekking Pole Review

(More customer reviews)I bought an expensive collapsable trekking pole to take on a trip to Machupicchu, only to discover that it wouldn't fit into my carry-on suitcase. As it turns out, nearly every one of the expensive collapsable walking sticks - which are supposedly designed for carry-on luggage - are about 1 inch too large for that purpose. Go figure. Plus, many travel sites claim that TSA (the airport security folks) won't let those sticks in the cabin.
So, I bought this item. It is nicely compact and very easily transported. No problem getting it through TSA. My only complaint is that the connections become a little loose and flimsy. It's just not that sturdy. Then again, it's a trade off between this packable trekking stick and more durable ones that would have to be checked at the airport.

(More customer reviews)After reading the previous reviews that didn't have the specifics I wanted, I took a chance, and here's what I have so far: total weight is 10 oz. Extended this trekking pole measures 54" (a bit short for a monopod), collapsed it is 27". It telescopes at two points, both which use twist/friction locks. Once locked, I could put considerable weight on the pole without any slipping, the pole bowing some instead. The grip is foam rubber (a plus in the rain) and the wrist strap is both adjustable and removable. The teeth on the carbide tip are not as deep as other treking poles I have used. The cap for the tip is push on, not screw or twist on, so there is some risk of losing it. The baskets are threaded, reducing the risk of losing them. The woodem knob unscrews to reveal a camera mounting screw. The compass doesn't work on mine.
Overall it is what I'm looking for, but I will post an update after I actually take it backpacking.

Furthermore, if you have not owned a camera mono-pod, this pole is what you should buy. Very light, small and sturdy, it can support most cameras and camcorders. Its anti-shock capability offers comfort to your hands and your camera. People often take a glance at my Leki when I have my camera on it. A monopod would become very useful if equipped with a head ball to offer extra degree of freedom in camera orientation. The MagMoumt head ball by Teck-Teck fits to the Leki as if it's specifically designed for; you can even put the Leki's knob on it
As a mopmopod, the Leki is about two inches shorter than the Manfrotto 676B when fully extended. Completely retracted, it's about eight inches longer but can still fit into your suitcase. It can be detached into three short pieces if need be.
I have the Leki for more than ten years already and I am still very fond of it.
