My biggest fear was it would not be heavy. I was thrilled when it arrived I found it to be sturdy! I loved the design. The handle is also easy for him to grip and also provides that sense of support he needs. He didn't not want a traditional cane nor did he want anything with ball on the top that you see in most rustic designs. This was perfect!

LEKI Studded Rubber Fitness Traction Tip Review

(More customer reviews)This tip is still somewhat slippery and noisy on asphalt surface and very slippery on concrete or other smoother surfaces. I really like my plain rubber tips for hard surfaces much better. It works as good as the tips with the rubber removed for dirt or trails. I think they are way over priced for what you get. Buy the heavy duty rubber tips instead, if you want a better traction for hard surfaces, stick with the carbon tips for trails and dirt.

(More customer reviews)I ordered a Hickory Walking Stick and got something made of Bianbai Wood. What??? Try doing a search for Bianbai Wood. I'm not even sure there is such a thing. And even if there is, I bought hickory. The product information states that they are the "largest supplier in the U.S." and that the product is "handcrafted from wood in the U.S." In truth, the product is shipped from Canada and Made in China. "Handcrafted from wood in the U.S"...I've never seen, much less heard of a tree called a Bianbai...oh wait, the back of the tag says it is made from "All New Material"...hmmm, maybe that's it. It's a brand new tree, but again, I paid for hickory. Like the other reviewer said, the bottom isn't finished either. He said they skipped finishing his under the tip, on mine it's the bottom 10 inches. it goes from a nice, dark brown finish to blonde bare wood. To be fair, it does seem sturdy and it has a good feel to it. Lightweight also. I just expect to get what is advertised, as I'm sure you do as well. I will keep the staff because I'm leaving on a hiking trip next week. However, I will not buy anything from this company again. Companies need to learn that we can just as easily buy our things from others. This is false advertisement at best. Oh, I almost forgot, it does come with a flower etched into it. Wish I would have read that review before I bought it, because the pic doesn't show it and it isn't mentioned in the description. I'm a guy. I don't like flowers on my stuff. If you wanna buy a walking staff that is nothing like it is portrayed in the description, made of bianbai wood, and made in china, well then this is perfect for you.

I got my 2 poles as a set and was free with purchase of Mountainsmith Women's Laurel Backpack. I used only one pole at a time because I wanted one hand free and often switch pole from one hand to another. Though I relied on only one pole, I never fell "yet" even in the dark (in the rain at White Oak Canyon and Ceder Run at AT, Virginia). Of course, you will need good hiking boots to balance your feet. I have mine about a year now so can't tell for long lasting quality.

Kenya, Kilimanjaro, on 4 weeks of hiking in the Andes, hiking small peaks in Scotland, and in many places in the US. They are comfortable, solid, durable poles. The grip material is easier on the hands than rubber. The grip angle is nice. Repair parts are available all over the world (though I have only replaced the tips). LEKI Nordic Walking Speed Pacer Vario T2 Poles (120cm) Review

(More customer reviews)I have been Nordic walking (really hiking up and down mountains) for nearly 4 years.
I used to love these poles. They are carbon and don't vibrate like aluminum poles. And they are light.
However I continually have issues with the locking mechanism not locking. I have sent the poles back once. Leki has a lifetime guarantee. They sent out repaired poles. But I have failures again.
However... having the locking mechanism fail (will not lock at all) is terrible. Once I had to use the poles at their shortest size since I couldn't lock them. Another time I had to abandon the trip.
I have Leki traveler poles I use when traveling by air and have had no problems with them.
I have given up on these an have just ordered some SWIX fixed length carbon poles.

(More customer reviews)This is a great hiking stick. The top hard wood knob has a built in compass, and is good to bash critters/persons that come at you in an aggressive manner. It also has a good wrist band made out of elastic that comes in quite handy. There is also a nice carrying strap. The stick can be extended or collapsed just buy twisting it a few times.
The hiking stick is collapsable and consists of three sections total. An added bonus is that there are "tick marks" measured off in increments along the extended portion of the hiking stick so you can measure the depth of any water obstacles that you come along. However, the measurements are in "metric". Kind of baffling. I just used a conversion scale and scratched the "english" measurement underneath the metric.
The handle screws off to offer a small compartment where you can store some matches or an emergency fishing kit or some sort of small items that may come in handy. The hiking stick comes with a hard plastic "V" that screws on in place of the hard wood handle. This is used for hunters for a rifle rest. Also, once the hard wood handle is screwed off, you can screw a camera in its place and the stick makes a good stand for photogrophy purposes.
About the only thing I can say "bad" about this hiking stick is that the rubber tip for the point of the stick has a tendency to un-screw itself when hiking. After a while it does get kind of aggravating, so one day I just tightened the tip a little too much and stripped out the threads in the collapsable sections and ruined my stick. I bought a second stick and used thread tape to help keep the rubber tip on. Now I have NO problems. I would suggest you do the same if you buy this hiking stick. Another "bad" comment is that this stick is kind of "pricey". However, as another reviewer commented, this hiking stick is worth every penny.

The Tracks Compact Travel Staff is hand-built with high-strength, lightweight anodized aluminum tubing. It features an upper section with push-button length adjustment and two shock-corded lower sections for compact storage and travel. Its length is adjustable between 48 and 54 inches (122 and 138 centimeters), its stored length is 19 inches (48 centimeters), and it weighs 10.5 ounces (300 grams). An elastic keeper strap secures the staff when collapsed. The staff has a contoured foam grip with adjustable wrist loop, a camera mount beneath a walnut knob, and a molded flex tip with removable rubber foot and trekking basket.
This staff is designed to reduce the impact of each step. The weight which is normally carried by the lower body is transferred to the arms and torso, lessening the stress on the legs by five to 10 pounds. (More customer reviews)I've been hiking for 40 years and usually have used free walking "sticks" so was a little skeptical about spending 150 bucks for store-bought. But....after using these poles on my last 4 outings (total about 50 miles of Northern California Trinity Alps Wilderness) I'm convinced they have taken 10-20% of the strain/stress off my knees and overall energy consumption on hard uphill/downhill/stream crossings. For flat walking you don't much need them but for all the other conditions they are great! Easily adjustable, lightweight, and since I've been hiking solo more, they allow me to feel more safe when hiking on difficult trail conditions. I'd reccomend them for any age hiker. The anti-shock feature really works.

We live on a beautiful farm, and I have not been able to walk around it for years and years. Our son gave me a pair of these for Christmas. I am not kidding myself, I'll never break any records, but with them I have been able to get around some areas of the farm again. As I write this, I have ordered more of these to use in the car. BTW I use them with the little shoe-like tips which seem to give me extra support.
