African Walking Stick 37 in. Review

I recenty acquired this stick for the express purpose of carrying it while walking my dogs. Lets face it, it is designed as a discreet weapon. As such, I was very impressed with it. The polypropylene is extremely resillient giving the stick plenty of strength yet keeping the weight down. I usually carry it tucked under one arm swagger stick-style but do use it for weight bearing when traversing inclined terrain. My one and only criticism of the stick is the unique polygonal handle. When used extensively as a true walking support item, the shape tends to press a bit uncomfortably on the palm. Those seeking a true walking aid might be better suited using a pistol grip style handle for weight support. With that said, the polygonal handle is very rugged and well suited for devastating target areas if the weapon was to be used for combat purposes. One other minor point of note, this stick is VERY intimidating and could draw unwanted police attention depending on your area. The Cold Steel Blackthorn stick might look somewhat more natural and draw less attention.
In conclusion, this stick is awesome and I will rarely leave home without it. Already just brandishing it at a pack of wild dogs was enough to fend off a potential attack. Considering the price and durability of this stick, I would highly recommend it. Perfect for the average person strolling about, just a tad uncomfortable on the palm for those needing a true weight bearing walking stick. For the price, you can't go wrong.

84" Waxwood Staff Review

84 Waxwood Staff

I was pleasantly surprised. I took my lead from another reviewer and ordered two. Both were OK but one was clearly thicker and straighter than the other. The wood was still fresh enough to straighten (wax wood eh...) Also, the wood seems to have been collected correctly so there is no splitting at the branch nodes. All in all, I plan to order more.
Even though the thickness is as advertised and the straightness is acceptable, I had hoped that one of the two I ordered might be the equal of a pole I bought a long time ago from Brendan Lai. No such luck, hence four stars. Maybe next time.
FYI, 200 grit paper gives the poles a smooth sliding surface after a couple of dozen passes.

Approximately 84'' in length. Our wax wood staff is light and flexible yet strong. The diameter of the staff varies due to the nature of the tree branch and tapered from one end to the other. The thickest bottom has a diameter of approximately 1'' to 1 1/2''. The wax wood staffs are directly imported from China.

6 Foot Wax Wood Staff Review

Solidly built, even specifications (i.e. uniform thickness), smooth with basically no chance you'd get splinters even if you regularly use your bare hands on the surface. I use the pole exclusively for stretching, and I find the full 6 feet necessary to to over-the-shoulder exercises holding the pole perpendicular to my height (i.e. not up-and-down but across.) Weight of pole gives it a "solid" feel.

59" Hickory Hiking Staff - Tall (for people 5' 9" - 6' 2") Review

I ordered a Hickory Walking Stick and got something made of Bianbai Wood. What??? Try doing a search for Bianbai Wood. I'm not even sure there is such a thing. And even if there is, I bought hickory. The product information states that they are the "largest supplier in the U.S." and that the product is "handcrafted from wood in the U.S." In truth, the product is shipped from Canada and Made in China. "Handcrafted from wood in the U.S"...I've never seen, much less heard of a tree called a Bianbai...oh wait, the back of the tag says it is made from "All New Material"...hmmm, maybe that's it. It's a brand new tree, but again, I paid for hickory. Like the other reviewer said, the bottom isn't finished either. He said they skipped finishing his under the tip, on mine it's the bottom 10 inches. it goes from a nice, dark brown finish to blonde bare wood. To be fair, it does seem sturdy and it has a good feel to it. Lightweight also. I just expect to get what is advertised, as I'm sure you do as well. I will keep the staff because I'm leaving on a hiking trip next week. However, I will not buy anything from this company again. Companies need to learn that we can just as easily buy our things from others. This is false advertisement at best. Oh, I almost forgot, it does come with a flower etched into it. Wish I would have read that review before I bought it, because the pic doesn't show it and it isn't mentioned in the description. I'm a guy. I don't like flowers on my stuff. If you wanna buy a walking staff that is nothing like it is portrayed in the description, made of bianbai wood, and made in china, well then this is perfect for you.

When selecting a staff, it should be at least 6" above your elbow to allow for plenty of staff going down hill. Hickory is our "Man's stick" weight wise because it is heavier and a little
