I like to take at least four with different line weights and reels because I am high maintenance, I guess. at any rate, it does beat a bucket and has a nifty pocket for your fishing license.

I fly to Mexico at least once a year. I have had many trips with decent results using Flambeau rod cases. However after a recent trip my case got damaged by the airline, and I decided to spend the extra cash for the larger PRO model. The door flap broke on first trip and the rods got damaged as the door opened and rods slid out. Also broken was the steel locking fastener? I am now thinking of going with the Plano cases?

Suggestion to avoid TSA breaking your rods during inspection - only extend the middle section to the length of the rods and then put a zip tie through the hole so it won't move. The top section will still extend and be available for TSA to remove for inspection, but it won't collapse below the length of the rods and snap the tips when they put it back on.

What I received was a pop-top design that I personally don't like as well.
That said, it does provide excellent protection for air travel.

(More customer reviews)I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and functionality of the Gear Guide rod/reel carrier (I wouldn't call it a case, as it is really a well designed 'bag').
Prior to having this carrier, my 3 rods were moving around in my trunk and prone to damage/scratches or getting tangled up. Now, my three favorite rods are well protected and always ready. Even though rods up to 8 feet fit inside this carrier, I tend take them apart (2 pieces) to minimize the space/length inside my car. The three rods and reels are separated by nice sheep skin that provides excellent protection for each.
I've used the bag for about one month on about a dozen fishing trips. Taking three rods/reels from the car to the fishing spot and getting them ready to fish has been so much easier and comfortable. No more compromise which of the three to bring... just take all three without a problem. At the fishing spot, prepare each rod/reel with ease and/or change rods without having them laying around (to be stepped on). The 'shell' of the carrier seems to be water resistant and doesn't pick-up a lot of dirt (nice smooth fabric). A simple wipe down with cloth easily removes the dust, etc. before putting it back into your trunk.
I've just placed another order for a second 3 rod carrying bag (before the supply of this great deal/steal dries up...). With a second 3-rod/reel carrier from Gear Guide, I can take both my rods and the ones for my kids while still having hands free to carry their other stuff or simply hold their hand.
If you care about your gear, buy these bags and probably enjoy them for many years.
