(More customer reviews)I'll agree with the other reviewers that this thing is sturdy. I weigh 220 and it holds me with ease. I'll also agree that the placing of the hand grips is bad. The bar extends in one direction, so you end up with a hand grip that is butted right up against the door frame. Yes, you can move the grips. But, 1.) it's a pain, and 2.) your grip will become uneven because the extension pole is smaller in diameter than the stationary pole.
But, for the $$, it works fine for me. I am planning on putting up a more permanent pullup bar (joist mounted) in my basement, so I won't have to deal with the grip thing much longer.

Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight 2 Two-Person Ultralight Tent Review

(More customer reviews)First the bad news: this tent is a tunnel design, so it is not free-standing. This means that you have to pull stakes to move it. In all my backpacking I have *never* had to move a tent before I was ready to leave (though my companion and I awoke one morning to find our Clip-3 had been in the middle of a storm-started stream all night--the seals held, and we both slept through it!). Also, I have only occasionally camped where the ground was so rocky I had trouble putting the primary stakes down. I camp mostly in the Pacific Northwest--your mileage may vary, so ask friends who camp in your area. My conclusion: "free standing" means little to me.
So why buy a tunnel design instead of a geodesic? Because tunnel designs offer the best interior space to weight ratio. In human speak, you get more space and less pack weight. You can reduce the ~4 pound pack weight further by purchasing some premium titanium stakes from aftermarket manufacturers. Many newer "ultralight" tents from Sierra Designs and others cost twice as much and weigh over 6 pounds.
Some tunnel tents from Stephenson's offer even lower weight, but are custom made--cost is very high, you may wait several weeks to receive it, and I would worry about availability of replacement parts. Sierra Designs is common enough that most outdoor chains can quickly sell you spare poles or parts should accidents occur while traveling.
This tent is a breeze to set up--takes only a few minutes, and regularly garners compliments and amazement from other campers who watch.
I only wish that Sierra Designs would offer the very similar but larger Clip-3 tent again. Mine packed under 5.5 pounds (with spare stakes), and had 42 square feet of interior space. That's less weight than most two-person geodesics and more space than most three-person tents! And I find the three person version a lot less claustrophobic.
Before purchasing a tent, I suggest you consider carefully how you will use it. This piece of gear is one of the most expensive and heavy you'll take into the wilderness. Each feature adds weight, and you may decide some are not worth carrying. Backpacker Magazine has excellent annual reports on tents--compare features there (it is often available in public libraries).

(More customer reviews)We bought this because we needed a big tent for our family of 5. I treated the rain fly with water-proofer. First of all, the set up is very easy, with color-coded poles and tent slide-throughs. The poles are typical fiber glass and steel. It took me about 20 minutes, with whatever "help" 7-year-old twin boys give. Second-- It's very roomy inside. Enough for a queen-sized air mattress and three smaller ones. I like the flimsy room divider because it's great for privacy while changing clothes. I doubt we'll use it as an actual room divider while sleeping. It rained the first night and rain did not get into the tent or the screen porch (wasn't a huge rain storm). Next time we camp, I'll bring a tarp to use as the floor of the screen porch, as it doesn't have a floor. They mfg recommends a smaller tarp for under the tent itself. Take-down was easy and it actually fit into the bag when we were done. We've only used it once, so I don't know how it'll hold up over the long haul. Overall, I think this is a great tent for the price.
EDITED TO ADD: We've had the tent about 6 months now. We still really like it. But this is NOT a tent for wind. It flaps wildly in the wind and the sides will cave in if the wind is very high. We added extra lines to try to make it more sturdy, but it's really no use when it's windy. When it's calm, this is fantastic.

Trango Squid Review

(More customer reviews)I have used a regular stick-clip before but mine was in bad shape. I decided to upgrade to the Squid Clip and bought an inexpensive painters pole to attach it. I have followed the instructions as have my climbing buddies. We can not seem to get the gate to fully open and stay that way for the clip. By the time we get the clip to the hanger, the draw falls as the gate was not open far enough.
I am open to suggestions........please.
